Advocate Children’s Hospital

Purpose:
The Vice President, Nursing Services/Chief Nursing Officer is a key strategic position in Advocate Children's Hospital, providing vision and direction for pediatric nursing throughout the Advocate system. The incumbent is accountable for professional nursing practice for all pediatric and neonatal departments of the hospitals in which licensed nurses practice (inpatient and outpatient settings at the two children's hospital campuses, as well as the community hospital sites, including JV Pediatric Partner sites), fostering staff development and regulating nurse credentialing. This includes responsibility for defining nursing care and establishing a consistent approach to clinical practice, the development and implementation of clinical pathways and departmental policies and procedures that describe how nursing care needs of pediatric patients are assessed, evaluated and met. This position will also have accountability for ensuring high quality patient care with a focus on patient safety, customer satisfaction, nurse education and training, recruitment, retention as well as achieving and maintaining Magnet designation.
 

Position Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing required
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare in a pediatric setting.
  • RN licensure in the state of Illinois
  • NEA~BC issued by ANCC
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Resiliency and flexibility to deal with a complex environment

Accountabilities:

  1. Provides leadership in elevating the practice of nursing services within Advocate Children's Hospital and affiliates through the development of a Pediatric Nursing Strategic Plan, ongoing monitoring of nursing performance standards and by serving as a professional role model and mentor to develop, recruit and retain future clinicians.
  2. Strategically ensures the continued delivery of high quality, state-of-the-art Pediatric nursing care and services in all facets of hospital operations at Advocate Children's Hospital, other Advocate hospitals with Pediatric services and non-Advocate joint venture affiliated hospitals.
  3. Collaborates in the organization-wide healthcare delivery system and process design, including the physical work environment, use of technology applications, workload measurements based upon care needs, clinical and financial projection models, data collection and analysis, outcome identification and measurement, practice innovations, and recruitment and retention initiatives.
  4. Accountable for measurement, assessment and improvement in nurse sensitive patient and organizational outcomes, as well as the assurance of a professional nursing practice environment in which registered nurses, and other professional clinical staff, are autonomous, govern their practice, and are empowered to provide excellent care.
