Position Requirements:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • A minimum of 5 years experience as a hospital or health system pharmacy technician
  • 2 years of college, or Bachelors Degree including coursework in math and composition preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Automation experience
  • Purchasing experience
  • General knowledge of computer applications
  • Experience with written and oral communications
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to gather data and prepare reports
  • Adaptable to performing multiple tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience with pyxis, omnicell, Connect Rx, simpfli, temptrack.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to prepare and dispense medications aseptically.
  • Ability to read small print on medication labels.
  • Ability to measure small quantities accurately.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize work to complete urgent tasks preferentially.
  • Ability to travel to various patient areas to deliver medications.
  • Ability to do light lifting to restock work areas and exchange medication cassettes.
  • Ability to push carts containing large quantities of medications or IV solutions for delivery to multiple nursing areas.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts to meet the staffing needs of the department.
  • Ability to prepare potentially toxic medications utilizing medication precaution procedures.
  • Schedule flexibility to meet the needs of the institution, adaptable to changes in workload and/or work schedule.

To supervise the pharmacy technician associates as it relates to the daily operations of pharmacy services and ensure the pharmacy provides optimal pharmaceutical care and customer service throughout the 24 hour day, 7 days/week. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor facilitates the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the essential pharmacy functions of drug storage, preparation and dispensing, prescribing and ordering, and medication administration. To implement procedures that ensure pharmacy practice at ALGH meets all requirements established through local, state and federal laws, regulations and professional standards.

The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for the data collection / analysis of the selected department PI indicators participates on the performance improvement and medication safety teams as assigned and implements recommendations related to medication use. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor participates in the management of department human resources and staff development. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor supervises the pharmacy technician staff through a direct reporting relationship (40 FTEs split between 2 supervisors) and the registered pharmacists through an indirect reporting relationship (10 FTEs) as it relates to the department operations workflow (ie. lunch coverage, medication turnaround time). Provide leadership for associates to meet goals, and to practice in accord with the mission, values, and philosophy of the department, hospital and health system.
