Position: Room Service Operator

Location: Lutheran General hospital; Park Ridge, IL.

PRN/Registry/Zero-Hour - scheduled on-call, as needed, to help fill in for departmental gaps and needed.

PM Coverage would be required (typically anywhere from 3pm-8pm or so)


Provides support of Food and Nutrition operations by facilitating the accurate and timely delivery of patient food and nutrition services. Processes physician's orders by maintaining patient card files, modifying menus, obtaining patient menu selections, entering menu selections into computer and preparing labels for enteral nutrition products and nourishments. Coordinates patient nutritional needs between nursing units and dietitians as well as kitchen staff. Also uses the Hospital computer system to charge and credit patient accounts for nourishment and supplement. Works with individual patients on obtaining menu selections.


Position Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 6mos~1yr experience in hospitality industry
  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently, as related to essential job activities
  • Computer skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (T.I.D., B.I.D., etc.)
  • Math skills: conversions of oz, cc, ml
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Flexible work hours between 5:00 A.M. and 8:30 P.M. including weekends and holidays.
  • Limited exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Safety and sanitation when in kitchen.
  • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously especially during high patient volumes.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.
