SCHEDULE: Full Time Evening/Nights with rotating weekends and holidays 

 

Purpose:
In any patient care setting the Respiratory Care Practitioner will perform the specific duties and responsibilities outlined below as assigned. Under medical supervision, the individual may be required to deliver respiratory care services to patients in all areas of the hospital (e.g., intensive care units, medical and surgical floors, emergency, trauma and recovery room). The practitioner must be able to adapt to the particular area of duty, performing special duties required by the assignment. Standards of performance for the area to which the individual is assigned must be maintained.
Accountabilities:

  • Conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve:
  • Evaluate Pulmonary Diagnostic studies.
  • Select, assemble and check the following equipment for proper function, operation and cleanliness, including correction of malfunctions:
  • Initiate, conduct, and modify respiratory care techniques in an emergency setting, including CPR.
  • As requested, provide continuing education through inservice training. Assist inclinical orientation process of the new employee.
  • Function as a member of the patient care team for the Hyperbaric Treatment Center.
  • Identify appropriateness of care delivery and implementation of patient care protocols based upon defined physiologic assessment.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited educational program for respiratory care technicians.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Good communication skills.
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner by the Illinois Dept. of Professional Regulation.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Ability to work weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to maintain 'on-call” status via long range page for HBO.
  • Able to wheel heavy equipment throughout the hospital.
  • The RCP needs to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
  • Frequent, medium intensity lifting.
  • Frequent lifting and positioning of patients.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.
