Position Requirements:

  • Nursing Care Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician certification.
  • High school graduate
  • NCT and/or paramedic experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in direct patient care.
  • This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups treated, prior experience with various age groups is preferred.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Basic anatomy and physiology knowledge.
  • BCLS Certification.
  • Ability to communicate with patients.
  • Ability to work staggered 8 hour shifts.
  • Ability to work in fast~paced environment with established time constraints.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and complete work within short timeframes.
  • Exposed to blood and body fluids.
  • Ability to assist patients in transfer.
  • Ability to perform medium lifting, lifting up to 20~50 pounds occasionally and/or 10~25 pounds frequently and/or 10 pounds constantly. Ability to perform pulling and pushing activities related to patient positioning/transfer and stocking of supplies.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

To provide technical and clinical assistance and care to patients in the Advocate Heart Institute (under the supervision of an RN, APN and/or physician) in accordance with professional standards and established departmental policies and procedures. May also be cross~trained to assist with Heart Station procedures, i.e., stress tests, event monitors, holter monitors, ECG's and other patient care responsibilities.

Provides care to Advocate Heart Institute patients under the supervision of an RN, APN and/or physicians within established department policies and procedures.
