Position: Host/Hostess

Location: Lutheran General Hospital; Park Ridge, IL.

Part Time (0.5) - working 20 hours a week. Availability must be 5 days per week working 4-hour shifts. Rotating weekends. Must be available to work holidays.

PM Shift

  • Hours are 3:30pm-7:30pm


To provide a high quality dining experience to patients which meets their nutritional requirements and service expectations. The Host/Hostess acts as the liaison between patients and Food and Nutrition through daily patient visits and coordinating patient nutritional needs between nursing units and dietitians, as well as kitchen staff. The Host/Hostess assists patients with room service when appropriate and delivers meal trays to assigned patients.


Position Requirements:

  • 6 months to 1 year experience in hospitality industry or customer service experience preferable.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English clearly and proficiently
  • Basic Computer skills (ie data entry)
  • Math skills: conversions of oz, cc, ml
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Flexible work hours between 5:00 A.M. and 8:30 P.M. including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to walk for significant periods of time when going to patient's rooms.
  • Limited exposure to hazardous conditions.
  • Safety and sanitation when entering patient's rooms or kitchen.
  • Ability to handle various tasks simultaneously especially during peak hours.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally with assistance and/or 10 to 15 pounds frequently.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.


  • Provides high quality patient service in distributing patient trays and nourishments
  • Utilizes CBORD and Care Connection to achieve meal selection, process diet orders and changes.
  • Ensures physician's diet orders are met by maintaining current and accurate patient card files and following specific standards for diet compliance.
