Lutheran General is a Level 1 Trauma Medical Center offering 24-hour specialty care while serving as a resource hospital to the 11 Level II trauma centers in the region. The Emergency Department receives over 52,000 emergency visits annually. Lutheran General holds magnet designation.


  • This position assists the Manager of Clinical Operations in providing administrative and clinical leadership on assigned shift.
  • The Assistant Clinical Manager will help plan, coordinate and manage personnel and resources to provide the highest quality patient care with trained, professional and competent staff in the most cost-effective manner.
  • This role will also assist in the provision of ongoing educational and professional development of staff. In conjunction with the manager, the Assistant Clinical Manager will collaborate with physicians and other health care disciplines to assure optimal patient care.
  • Performance of the principle duties and responsibilities of the RN position and serves as a role model for professional practice.  
  • Promotion and support of an environment that is conducive to staff growth and development and autonomy.
  • Collaborates with the Manager of Clinical Operations, medical director, and others in developing the strategic plan and direction for the unit. Practices the principles of performance improvement.  
  • Responsibility for professional growth and development 



  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) with 3-4 years clinical experience OR ADN degree with 5 years' clinical experience and enrolled in a Bachelor's in Nursing program within six months of appointment (completion of program within five years of appointment).
  • Prefer nursing experience within Emergency Department Level 1 Trauma
  • Minimum of 1 year Charge RN experience in Emergency Department
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Current Illinois RN License
  • Current CPR and ACLS Certification
  • Certifications/education required for the nursing specialty
  • Strong clinical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse work group
  • Utilization of critical thinking in timely decision making
  • Ability to work within a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal/external customers
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials and life-threatening diseases
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to patient care
  • Ability to prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints and in difficult situations.
  • Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients (up to 50 lbs. may be required)
  • Ability to transport objects from one location to another
  • This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
