SHIFT: Days M-F 7-3:30p, 8-4:30p, 8:30-5p No weekend or holidays

JOB and UNIT SUMMARY:

  • To plan, direct and manage the Trauma Registry computerized database and computer technology functions that ensures compliance with rules and regulations of the Illinois Department of Public Health Trauma Registry.
  • Provide Trauma incidence, management and outcome information to ensure quality care, and guide injury prevention program.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Integrity, accuracy and timely entry of abstracted and coded initial case information into the Trauma Registry database to provide trauma incidence, management and statistical information.  
  • Maintain trauma registry files for both pediatric and adult patients
  • Abstract patient data from Emergency Department and hospital charts onto trauma registry data sheets for adult and pediatric trauma patients
  • Update, daily, the trauma registry data sheets for in-hospital adult and pediatric trauma patients based on information derived from trauma rounds
  • Provide ICD-9CM codes for diagnoses, procedures and complications for the adult and pediatric trauma patients based on information derived from Emergency Department and hospital chart
  • Calculate injury severity, Glasgow Coma and Champion’s Trauma Scores for the adult and pediatric trauma patients based on information derived from the Emergency Department and hospital charts
  • Enter patient data into the trauma registry on the trauma service personal computer
  • Generate quarterly reports for the Chicago Department of Health Trauma System and the Illinois Department of Public Health Trauma System
  • Maintain data in the trauma registry computer system including appropriate back-up and archiving of data

  • Ensures Trauma Registry compliance with hospital policies and IDPH guidelines
  • Assists with development and implementation for the Trauma Registry according to IDPH requirements, database vendor-specific and hospital-specific needs

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School or equivalent
  • Data processing experience helpful
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • 1-2 years of experience in an ART (Accredited Record Technician) position
  • Medical coding knowledge required
  • Basic typing (keyboarding skills)
  • Working knowledge of software including databases, word processing and graphics.
  • Good organizational skills with good follow through.
  • Good investigative and analytic skills with detail orientation
  • Good communication skills
  • ART or eligible
