SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST II - PEDS REHAB & DEVELOPMENT

  • Advocate Hope Children's Hospital, Oak Lawn, IL
  • Part-Time - 24 hours per week

Position Requirements:
Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology

Illinois state licensure
Current BLS Certification

ASHA certification (CCC/SLP)
At least 2 years of clinical experience in medical setting.
Maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by professional standards.
Successful experience with supervision: senior level students and/or mentoring new staff/peers
Good communication skills.
Independence in providing advanced level of clinical skills and expertise.

Required to work approximately one weekend per month.

Required to work on weekends, holidays, and/or early evening hours as assigned, based on department guidelines.

Off campus locations as assigned.

Services provided on weekends, holidays and early evening hours.
Lifts 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly.
May be exposed to hazardous materials and life~threatening diseases.
Direct contact with bodily fluids.
Ability to assist, escort, transfer, and respond to patient needs for extended periods of time.

Speaks English clearly, intelligibly and fluently.
This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 08/01/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Purpose:
Provides direct speech therapy services to Pediatric patients, birth to adolescents, of all ages who are referred to the department. Selects appropriate evaluation procedures and develops individualized treatment programs to restore or maximize each patient's functional skills. A Therapist II is responsible for a complex caseload, and role includes teaching, mentoring and committee responsibilities. Serves as a clinical resource to staff and assists the manager in the daily operations of the department as assigned.

Accountabilities:
Responsible for all principal accountabilities of a Speech Language Pathologist I
Participation in Rehab Services growth and operations.
Responsible for staying abreast of clinical and operational developments.
Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned.
Participation in educational / mentoring activities with Speech Language Pathologystudents, medical students, peers, Hospital staff and / or the community.
