Position Requirements:

 

Purpose:
The Peer Recovery Support Specialist is an individual who is in recovery from substance use disorder. Their life experiences and recovery allow them to provide recovery support in such way that others can benefit from their experiences. Functions as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and use of coping skills serves as a consumer advocate, providing consumer information and peer support for patients.


High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic PC skills
Excellent communication skills
CPR and Crisis Prevention Intervention.
Within one year of hire, will obtain Certified Recovery Support Specialist through the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association.
Ability to work with multidisciplinary team including MD, ST, OT, PT, SW.
Highly developed clinical skills, as well as excellent verbal, written and public speaking skills.
Some weekends and holidays.
Off~campus locations, including work in patient homes or schools.
Commitment to evidence~based interventions, to staying current on the pediatric literature, and to modifying practices and recommendations in response to the literature.
Reasonable flexibility regarding schedule and location, including willingness to spend occasional time at other Advocate hospitals.
Skilled at forming relationships with key stakeholders in the community
Willingness to do occasional public speaking, for education and public relations purposes.



If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

 

Accountabilities:
Serves as Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS). Provides individual screening, patient engagement, warm hand offs, and brief therapeutic services utilizing a solution focused, therapy framework.
Professional Development
Additional duties as assigned.
Assess Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)options for patients and induction of buprenorphine prior to discharge. Confirm transportation to intake appointments and confirm patient arrival and engagement
Ensuring a connection to affordable treatment options and recovery services. Engage with patients discharge.
