Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist Program ARC~STSA(CAAHEP~ Commision on Accredidation of Allied Health Education Programs)
This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e. understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging prior experience with various age groups is preferred
Ability to work well with internal and external customers
Fine motor skills
Ability to wear a surgical mask and gloves
Auditory skills which allow incumbent to hear individuals whose speech may be muffled
CPR certified
Certified Surgical Technologist certification from the NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) within 90 days of hire Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations
May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases heavy lifting in accordance with DOL definition
Ability to work rotating shifts and day of the week including holidays and take call as needed
Ability to work in a fast paced environment with established time constraints.
Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others.


If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

To assist in providing quality patient care in a manner which is patient focused, technically appropriate, and cost effective. The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) works under the direct supervision of a register nurse in accordance with the Standards of Practice and within the guideline of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.

The CST is responsible for establishing and maintaining a sterile field, a safe patient care environment, and appropriate supplies/equipment as required for the operative procedure. The CST functions as a cooperative health care team member in a critical care environment treating the patient in a holistic manner with dignity and respect.


Accountabilities:
Functions in the scrub role on surgical procedures as a member of the surgical team
Preparation and maintenance of the sterile field
Participates in maintaining the readiness of the Operating Room
Maintains professional work environment
Demonstrates accountability for own self development


Operating room experience may be required. Surgical experience in the following areas may be required: adult and pediatric open heart, heart transplant, and VAD
