Position Requirements:
~Graduate of an approved AMA Radiologic Technology Program
~Completion of Training in Mammography speciality
~ Knowledge of breast anatomy
~ Need to recognize patients experiencing fear or
anxiety
~ Needs to be able to recognize needs and
behaviors of a variety of age groups of
patients treated, i.e. understand the differences
of female growth and development, and look
for signs of normal aging degree of under~
standing and physical limitation related to age

~ Good verbal and written communication skills
~ Ability to handle anxious and fearful patients
~ Demonstrated technical skills as a mammographer
~Knowledge of mammography positioning.

and psychological issues associated with

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Purpose:
Technologists in this position are primarily responsible for the performance of screening and diagnostic mammograms. The technologist must obtain an accurate/updated history from the patient.
The quality of the work produced must be at the highest level. Due to the highly emotional nature of breast imaging, patients must perceive the technologist as being extremely competent, compassionate, and as an expert resource in answering questions. Technologists work in an environment of high patient stress and anxiety. The technologist is the principle success factor in communicating a sense of calm to the patient physically must touch the patient's breast and apply mechanical compression to the patient. The technologist must keep current of women's issues relative to breast health and other related diseases and be prepared to answer questions or provide resources that can assist in answering the patient's questions. The technologist has frequent interaction with radiologists, referring physicians, patients, family members, and the public at large.


Accountabilities:
Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms on physician referred or self recommended patients according to established clinical protocols and MQSA Quality Guidelines.
Performs mammography equipment quality control and quality assurance tests established to meet MQSA Qualaity Control/Quality Assurance Standards and equipment manufacturer's recommendations.
Ensure a secure and safe patient and work environment by maintaining continued awareness of safety hasards.
Prepares and processes patient clinical and demographic information, using Penrad and ensures the accuracy of historic and current information.
Prepares mammographic images, scans documentation and determines when radiographic exam adheres to department standard for interpretation by the Radiologist.
