Position Requirements:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management/ Medical Records Administration or other relevant areas of study with 5 years Management experience in Hospital Health Information Management/Medical Records Department
  • 5 years extensive inpatient hospital coding experience
  • Demonstrated management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills
  • Budgetary competence
  • Basic computer skills, spreadsheets, etc
  •  Demonstrated Health Information Management skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT coding systems, as well as
    knowledge of various reimbursement methodology used in health care (DRGs, APR DRGs, APCs, capitation, per diem, etc.)
  • Demonstrated competence in administration, planning, supervision, recruitment and management techniques
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred
  • Position requires overview of 24 hours, 7 days a week department
  • Able to travel to other hospital sites, corporate settings and seminar locations
  • Able to work under stressful conditions while maintaining professionalism and manage multiple completing priorities

  • Purpose:
    Plans, organizes and directs the operations of the centralized Shared Coding Services organization across 9 SRCO hospital sites, in accordance with State and Federal laws, accrediting agency standards and Advocate policies. Serves as an internal consultant and primary coordinator of systemwide revenue cycle coding initiatives. Ensures compliant coding and effective DNFC management to sustain Advocate Health Care Revenue Cycle goals. Uses a multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary focus and tactical use of information to analyze trends and patterns of activity to remedy or optimize revenue cycle processes. Coordinates systemwide clinical and nonclinical performance improvement activities and operational improvement teams related to coding operations to improve quality and optimize revenue cycle strategies. Works collaboratively with clinical and nonclinical partners to promote documentation accuracy to support external reporting of data and appropriate reimbursement. Maintains a collaborative and progressive partnership with the Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Director. This position has accountability to ensure a successful remote training and onboarding process for new coding associates. Requires successful interactions with technology vendor partners as well as internal IT partners to ensure minimal disruption to coding workflows.
