Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math or related field
  • 1+ years of experience creating complex SQL queries
  • 1+ years of experience with commercial business intelligence applications (Tableau, Business Objects, Power BI preferred) and Microsoft solutions (e.g. SSRS, SSAS, MDX)
  • 1+ years of experience building data models or universes
  • Healthcare industry experience preferred Proficient in writing complex SQL queries
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Analysis Services
  • Experience creating reports and visualizations using commercial business intelligence applications
  • Familiar with application development, data modeling, and data requirements analysis
  • Knowledge of Hadoop and Vertica
  • Knowledge of basic statistics
  • Knowledge of database design (physical and logical)
  • Demonstrates critical thinking, ability to problem solve, and is results oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others as part of a team

  • If not certified upon hire, employee will be sent to training in the application(s) for which they are hired. Certification must be obtained within 90 days of completion of the last class. Three attempts will be allowed to attain certification.
  • May travel outside Illinois for conferences and occasional local travel


Purpose:
The Electronic Health Record (EHR) is the transactional core of care provided to patients. The ability to leverage data entered into the EHR enables organizations to provide better quality care at a better value. A central team that can both technically extract requested data and support requestors in identifying data needs is a key component to an EHR team the extent to which this is seamlessly operationalized is a key measure of EHR implementation success.

  • This position requires you to be Epic certified in Cogito, Caboodle, Clarity and either Access, Clinical or Revenue Data Model. The candidate must pass these certifications (max 3 attempts allowed) to perform in this role. These certifications must be achieved within 90 days of employment. Note, Epic changes course titles, application names, and certification requirements from time to time. As these requirements change, the expectation is the same, the candidate must be certified to perform this job.

 

  • The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for designing and creating views, reports, dashboards, and visualizations, utilizing data models and writing complex queries.
  • The Business Intelligence Developer utilizes technical expertise to build and execute code to render datasets requested and used for clinical, technical and analytic EHR application use, workflow enhancement, research and innovation efforts throughout Advocate.
  • This position works both alone and with a team to facilitate successful execution of project tasks, dataset delivery support and maintenance. This position works with multiple business intelligence applications (e.g.Business Objects, Tableau, Power BI, SSIS, SSRS, Epic Cogito) and writes SQL queries to extract information from the EHR database, the cloud~based population health data warehouse and Advocate's Enterprise Data Warehouse.


Accountabilities:

  • Technical Support for Analytics and Research: Complies with standards and provides technical support for the design, creation, and maintenance of the projects, data models, universes, reports, and queries in the cloud~based data warehouse.
  • Reporting: Creates clear and well~designed reports, dashboards, and data visualizations, for consumption at all levels of the organization.
