Position Requirements:
High School Graduate or equivalent
CNA and 1 year previous experience in a hospital, physicians office or a nursing home OR Allied health/medical/nursing students who have completed 1 or more clinical rotations

CPR
Completion of medical terminology course (or equivalent experience)
Good written and verbal communication skills

Ability to frequently stoop, bend, push, pull, climb, lift and demonstrate manual dexterity for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift and assist with the movement of heavy patients and or equipment up to 300 lbs. (with assistance) Lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently
Ability to adapt to changes in work assignments and environment
Possible exposure to infectious waste and disease
Ability and willingness to work on all shifts, weekends and holidays in all patient care areas
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (stand and./or walk 80 percent of time sit 20 percent of time, depending on assignment) able to kneel or bend
Able to work at a pace sufficient to complete assignment workload daily
Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of fire or other disaster
Ability to adapt to changes in work assignments and environment.
Possible exposure to various contagious diseases, radiation, chemicals, caustic materials electrical equipment and hazards associated with their use.
Able to work at a pace sufficient to complete assigned workload daily.
Possible eye and wrist strain due to continuous use of CRT.
Ability to function in a professional and organized fashion under adverse conditions.
Ability to transport supplies and access all areas of the hospital.


If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Purpose:
The Unit Secretary/Patient Care Tech (US/PCT) provides support for a variety of patient care units by managing information to facilitate coordination and efficient high quality delivery of patient care and customer service. This team member works under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse in accordance with the standards of practice, within the guidelines of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and the mission and philosophy of Condell Medical Center.

The patient care technician/Unit Secretary (PCT/US) works as a member of the patient care team. The PCT/US recognizes the needs and behaviors of patients and various age groups and provides care in a manner that is age appropriate.


Accountabilities:
Processes and requisitions patient care orders.
Admissions/Discharges/Transfers
Performs basic patient care services that are specific to the patient population served and completes documentation as directed by the Registered Nurses.
Ensures essential data is available in a timely, accurate, consistent manner, and easily accessible.
Maintains Medical Record following established methods
Maintains Patient environment
Promotes a smoother workflow and provides a positive hospital experience for patients, families and visitors
Patient Care support
Promotes patient safety in collaboration with RN by utilizing fall precautions as indicated with high fall risk patients
