Position Requirements:
~ Graduate of AMA Approved Program in
Radiologic Technology
~ 1 ~ 2 years experience as Radiologic
Technologist or sonographer
~ 40 hours of specialized training and continuing
education in mammography
~ Knowledge of breast anatomy
~ Need to recognize patients experiencing fear or
anxiety
~ Needs to be able to recognize needs and
behaviors of a variety of age groups of
patients treated, i.e. understand the differences
of female growth and development, and look
for signs of normal aging degree of under~
standing and physical limitation related to age ~ Good verbal and written communication skills
~ Ability to handle anxious and fearful patients
~ Demonstrated technical skills as a radiographer
~Knowledge of mammography positioning.
~ Registered Radiologic Technologist/ARRT
~ IDNS License ~ Position best performed by a female who
enjoys working with women in health related
issues
~ Must understand and take serious the social
and psychological issues associated with
mammography and breast cancer.

~ Must keep informed of changes in regulatory
requirements, including FDA, IEMA, ACR, and
MQSA

~ Must engage in continuous learning and
review of new and emerging technologies

~ Must be flexible and be able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and growing patient volume

~ Must demonstrate confidence in one's own ability and have a calming effect on patients and others


If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Purpose:
This position is primarily responsible for the performance of screening and diagnostic mammograms as well as bone density testing.

The technologist is the principle success factor in communicating a sense of calm to the patient collects and processes valuable personal and clinical information physically must touch the patient's breast and apply mechanical compression to the patient.

The technologist must be knowledgeable of women's issues relative to breast health and other related diseases and be prepared to answer questions or provide resources that can assist in answering the patient's questions. The technologist has frequent interaction with radiologists, referring physicians, patients, family members, and the public.

Accountabilities:
Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms and bone density testing on physician referred patients according to established clinical protocols and MQSA Quality Guidelines.
Performs mammography equipment quality control and quality assurance tests established to meet MQSA Quality Control/Quality Assurance Standards and equipment manufacturer's recommendations.
Ensure a secure and safe patient and work environment by maintaining continued awareness of safety hazards.
Prepares and processes patient clinical and demographic information, using RIS or Penrad, when available, and ensures the accuracy of historic and current information.
Prepares mammographic images, scans documentation and determines when radiographic exam adheres to department standard for interpretation by the Radiologist.
Provides pre~procedure, procedure and post~procedure education and instruction to the patient appropriate to the patient's needs and requirements.
Delivery of Patient Care in accordance with departmental standards of continued quality improvement.
