Health Unit Coordinator - Pre-Surgical Testing

Job Summary:

Performs clerical and system coordination for nursing units. Monitors and updates orders and schedules diagnostic and therapeutic services. Ensures accuracy and frequent updates of unit census, patient information, and level of care. Coordinates all nursing unit communications and activities. Acts as receptionist, greeting and/or directing patients, visitors, physicians, and other health care providers.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Graduate, or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED).
  • No experience required
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to interruptions and changing priorities/workloads.
  • High level of attention to detail essential.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

 

Will regularly be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.  Must have functional vision, hearing, and speech.  Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.  This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
