The Coordinator of G.I. provides leadership, and manages the daily Endoscopy processes to assure high level efficiency, resource management, standards of quality care and customer service. The Coordinator demonstrates excellence in clinical practice, critical thinking and decision making skills related to Endoscopy.

At Advocate Condell, we combine the experience and expertise of our Gastroenterology Lab and colorectal surgery team to give you the most comprehensive care available.

G.I. Coordinator Accountabilities:


  • Ensures delivery of comprehensive nursing care, collaborating with physicians and other health care providers in accordance with standards of nursing practice and standards set by the Society of Gastroenterology Nursing (SGNA) and established policy and procedures
  • Ensures adequate staffing through the development of staffing plans and schedules
  • Provides input into departmental budget planning and monitoring to ensure personnel, facilities and materials are at required service levels
  • Develops inter and intra departmental and physician working relationships to achieve continued user satisfaction
  • Identifies staff learning opportunities and works with manager to design plans for strategic initiatives in case management
  • Ensures a safe environment for patients and staff
  • Responsible for personal and professional growth




  • Associate Degree of Nursing or Bachelors of Science in Nursing (preferred) from accredited school of nursing
  • Non BSN nurses must start a BSN program within two years of hire date and complete within 5 years (tuition assistance available)
  • Current Illinois RN license
  • CPR (BLS through American Heart Association)
  • ACLS
  • Minimum 3 yrs. experience in G.I



Interpersonal/Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of G.I. equipment and procedures
  • Proven success in physician relationships
  • Outstanding patient service skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Must be able to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understanding child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and signs of normal aging
  • Prior experience with a variety of age groups is preferred
  • Ability to work under time constraints and in stressful situations
  • Ability to lead staff in emergent situations
  • Has extensive knowledge of endoscopy sterilization equipment
  • Evidence of this can be shown by recognizing levels of development and modifying approach and exhibiting communication skills necessary to interpret age specific responses


Physical/Work environment:

  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis
  • May be exposed to bodily fluids, hazardous material or life
    threatening diseases
