Purpose:  Repairs and maintains patient care equipment, devices, instruments, systems and related technologies to minimize downtime, maximize resources and ensure safe, operational, performance characteristics for patients, team members and physicians.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Corrective maintenance
  • Preventative maintenance, safety and quality assurance testing
  • Technical projects and other duties
  • Equipment management

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in electronics, computer or biomedical equipment technology or Equivalent training with a High School diploma or GED.
  • Apprenticeship or comparable healthcare experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology preferred 
  • Valid Driver’s License with the state of Illinois
  • Eligibility for Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET)
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer to document work efforts.
  • Ability to use electronic test equipment for troubleshooting and repair.
  • Manual dexterity to effectively use hand tools.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical documentation
  • Potential high stress situations due to repair demands in minimal time frames, change initiatives, and/or scheduling challenges.
  • Ability to work with extremely high voltage and with complex electronic circuitry.
  • May be required to work in a confined space or on a ladder.
  • Exposure to blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids, noxious fumes and air borne contaminants possible.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for on-call pager response and to report to work as assigned at multiple Advocate facilities.
  • May require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to distinguish different colors.
