South Suburban is a 260 bed hospital with a level 2+ nursery and 24 bed Emergency Room. We also have a 5 star skilled nursing facility on site and 2 Davinci Robots in our surgical services area.

Purpose:
Direct, coordinate, plan and manage the clinical activities,administrative functions, physician relations and personnel of Surgery and the Sterile Processing Department to established policies, procedures and objectives of South Suburban Hospital in order to provide the highest quality patient care in the most cost-effective manner.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in nursing required
  • 5 years clinical experience in Surgical Services.
  • 2 years experience in management in Surgical Services
  • Organization, planning, and delegation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership attributes.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Current Illinois license as Registered Nurse


Accountabilities:

  1. Selection of qualified staff to ensure that excellent services are provided. Responsible for the planning, assessment, facilitation, direction and monitoring of staff development to ensure competence.
  2. Establishment of appropriate staffing requirements for each shift to ensure that service needs are met.
  3. Responsible for personal and professional growth and development
  4. Planning and direction of overall activities within Surgery and the Sterile Processing Department to ensure the provision of quality patient care.
  5. Provision of inservices for nursing staff to ensure availability of current information regarding patient care relevant to assigned areas.
  6. Maintenance of effective working relationships within the departments as well as with other hospital departments and the medical staff.
  7. Development and implementation of short and long range goals and objectives to ensure the continued ability of Surgical Services and the Sterile Processing Department to meet present and future demands.
  8. Development and implementation of policies, procedures and standards to ensure compliance with federal, state and agency regulations and laws.
  9. Responsible for the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the department's expense budgets congruent with South Suburban Hospital strategic goals and in collaboration with Director of Surgical Services.
