South Suburban is a 260 bed hospital with a level 2+ nursery and 24 bed Emergency Room. We also have a 5 star skilled nursing facility on site and 2 Davinci Robots in our surgical services area.

To assist in providing quality patient care in a manner which is focused on the surgical patient, technically appropriate, and cost effective. Instrument Technician/Transporter (ITT) works under supervision of Registered Nurse in accordance with the mission, values and philosophy of Advocate Healthcare and South Suburban Hospital

- Communicates effectively with a wide variety of customers
- Transportation of Patients
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 6 months to one year experience as an instrument technician
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of surgical instruments
- Excellent customer service skills
- Skills with various age groups
- Ability to read and write English
- Able to work at fast pace with high level accuracy
- Basic computer knowledge and skills
- CPR ~ Lifts 50 to 100 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly
- Ability to maneuver and operate transport equipment. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.
- ITT recognizes the needs and behaviors of patients of various age groups and provides care in a manner that is age appropriate
- ITT has skills and knowledge necessary to provide decontamination, sterilization, processing, and maintenance of Operating Room instrumentation. Understands and applies principles of aseptic technique when handling instrumentation
- Effectively communicate with patients when transporting to unit and verifies patient identification when picking up and hands off to assigned department.
