Immediate Care Setting in Elgin; Hours vary dependent upon need; Lab Hours M-F : 0700-530 pm; Saturday: 0700-100 pm; may include covering at  add'l locations in South Elgin & Algonquin

Needs to be able to work 2-3 days per week after 1pm 



Position Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 2 years previous patient care delivery experience.
Completion of phlebotomy training program.
Phlebotomy certification.
Previous laboratory experience in specimen handling and simple test performance, immediate care or occupational health setting is preferred. Knowledge of phlebotomy and EKG practices.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
Good organizational skills.
Courteous and professional interpersonal skills.
CRT/Computer familiarity.
Customer Service approach to providing care.
Manual dexterity.
Flexibility. Phlebotomy certification : PBT (ASCP) / NPA / ACA
NCMA certification also accepted.

EKG certification within 1 year of hire.

Certification, as per Department of Transportation guidelines, as it relates to drug screens and breath~alcohol testing within 90 days of hire Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations.
Ability to work rotating shifts and day of the week, including holidays.
Ability to rotate to other ACL site.
Endurance for long periods of standing, bending, and walking carrying phlebotomy equipment throughout hospital.
Exposure to contagious diseases, potentially biohazardous specimen and materials.

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

To collect quality blood specimens from patients, to perform EKG testing (site specific), and to perform limited laboratory analysis in all clinical areas in a manner that is technically appropriate, cost effective and patient focused, according to approved departmental policies and procedures. Phlebotomists must be proficient in multiple lab systems (ACL, Systoc, Cerner, etc), and must be certified with DOT guidelines for BAT and drug screens.

Performs EKG testing ensuring accurate results from computerized electrocardiograms and rhythm strips are provided for Cardiologist interpretation.
Performs limited laboratory test analyses, under general supervision in all areas of the lab as needed.
Provider Involvement
Daily Operations: Collects laboratory specimens to include blood, throat and nasal cultures, urine, urine drug screen and invasive nasopharyngeal swab collections, from patients of all ages in accordance with accepted laboratory standards, policies and procedures (operational and safety) in order to ensure optimal specimen integrity and accurate test results.
Immediate Care / Occupational Health responsibilities
Triages and processes specimen efficiently and accurately according to policy and procedure. (Site specific).

Effective 12/1/2015: Sherman associates moved to the phlebotomist~technical position from the Lab Services Tech position will have 1 year to complete their phleb certification.
