Creates a comprehensive computerized database of cancer information to ensure compliance with the legislative and accreditation requirements of the Illinois Department of Public Health~Illinois State Cancer Registry (IDPH ~ ISCR) and the American College of Surgeons (ACoS). Identifies all reportable neoplasms abstracts, codes and enters medical information into the Cancer Registry database to provide cancer incidence, management and outcome information. Provides support to internal market groups, clinicians, researchers and accrediting bodies to benchmark and evaluate compliance with evidence~based quality metrics. Creates reports to accurately portray organizational volumes and evaluate performance. Acts as a liaison between hospital facilities, external accrediting agencies, physicians, state department of health and human services, data vendors and technical support. Assists with Cancer Program activities which include Cancer Committee meetings, weekly Cancer Conferences and participates in data collection and tracking for Clinical Trials/Research.


  • Collects Oncology information utilizing MosaiQ software to create a Cancer Registry database in accordance with requirements of the IDPH~ISCR, ACoS and the Advocate Cancer Institute.
  • Assist with Cancer Program activities as determined by the Cancer Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain a 90 percent follow~up (FUP) rate of Cancer Registry cases in order to provide cancer outcome information as required by the ACoS.
  • Identify all reportable neoplasm's required by the AcoS and the IDPH/ISCR for Inclusion in the Cancer Registry database.


Position Requirements:

  • Associates degree or higher and two semesters of human anatomy and human physiology.
  • Basic typing (keyboard) skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer software including cancer database, word processing and graphics.
  • Excellent organizational skills with good follow through.
  • Good investigative and analytic skills with detail orientation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Applicant must be CTR eligible according to the specifications listed under education/experience.
  • CTR credential must be obtained within 2 years of start date.
  • Requires extensive keyboarding.
  • Self~motivated and able to work independently
  • Able to prioritize and manage workflow
  • Able to deal professionally with physicians
  • Able to deal professionally and tactfully with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Minimal ~ normal office environment. May require lifting charts, pushing a cart and lifting a laptop.
