Position Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent

Have successfully completed an IL approved CNA training program and pass a written competency test.
Have successfully completed a nursing arts course (e.g., Basics in Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing, Nursing 101). Must provide an official transcript indicating successful completion and at least 40 hours of supervised clinical experience in an accredited nurse training program.
Good written and verbal communication skills

Ability to enter and retrieve data via computer

Customer service skills

Ability to accurately take vital signs

CNA (if non nursing student)
Ability to adapt to changes in work assignments and environment

Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, climb, lift and demonstrate manual dexterity for extended periods of time.

Possible exposure to infectious waste and disease

Ability and willingness to work on all shifts, weekends, and holidays in patient care areas

Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (stand and/or walk 80 percent of the time sit 20 percent of the time, depending on assignment)

Ability to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of fire or other disaster

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

The purpose of this position is perform direct patient care activities and maintain the patient environment under the direction of the registered nurse and provide an exceptional patient experience through excellence in customer service.

Plans and performs general patient care duties that are specific to the patient population served and as directed by the Registered Nurse.

PCA IIs employed by the Clinical Resource Unit who undergo cross training to work as an Emergency Department Technician demonstrate the following competencies and perform these tasks under the direction of a licensed clinician:

1. Transportation of patients interdepartmentally
2. Application of orthopedic supports including but not limited to casts and splinting devices, measurement of crutches and provision of patient instruction for safe crutch walking.
3. Venous blood draws for lab tests.
4. Insertion of urinary catheters.
5. Perform 12~lead EKGs.
