The Infection Prevention Surveillance Analyst is a key position that was created as a result of the executive management's desire to standardize and reduce the variability in identifying healthcare acquired infections. The individuals in this position, located at the system, will be responsible for multiple acute care sites and across the post~acute continuum to provide the ongoing surveillance of data that identifies healthcare associated infections in a timely manner, and advanced data and analytics to support the site practitioners in achieving improved health outcomes. Additionally, the position is responsible for synthesizing and interpreting clinical and administrative data, evaluating trends and statistical significance, developing expertise and ownership of specific measure definitions and datasets, and utilizing computer skills to develop and maintain complex reporting systems. IP Surveillance Analyst will collaborate with the System Administrator and multi~site (MS) Directors to support the implementation of the Advocate Infection Prevention strategic plan by providing a standardized approach to integration of Infection Prevention data and public reporting. The clinical IP background of this individual is required as the data produced by the surveillance analysts' work forms the foundation of the system IP program. This position will work across the continuum to identify areas of priority, focus for improving the health outcomes of our patients.
The Infection Prevention Surveillance Analysts will report directly to the System Administrator. Through this reporting relationship, the Surveillance Analyst will be responsible for identification of Healthcare~acquired Infections (HAI), use of the National Safety Health Care Network definitions (NHSN) surveillance definitions, local and national public reporting, data analysis of HAI and providing training and mentorship to new/current members of the IP team in the use of the electronic data mining.


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in nursing, allied health or health related field.
  • 5 years in a role focused on Infection Prevention
  • Experience in use of analytical tools including root cause analysis, apparent cause analysis, along with basic statistical abilities.
  • Experience in project management and process improvement techniques.
  • Specialized knowledge of regulatory reporting software systems (INEDDS, XDRO registry)
  • Experience working with NHSN definitions
  • Experience working with decision support systems or databases
  • Understanding of basic statistical analysis
  • Experience in MS~Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, PowerBI)
  • Experience in use of data mining software systems (i.e. Theradoc, Medmined)
  • Demonstrated self~directed, results~oriented and creative approach to organizational change
  • Effective presentation skills in small and large group settings, internal and external to the organization
  • Ability to succeed in responding to change and handling multiple priorities
  • Information management skills, including data analysis, flowcharting, and report preparation
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) ~Candidate must be willing to attend, onsite and offsite, department meetings and educational activities. Must be able to perform basic administrative functions, participation in outside professional activities and maintain proficiency in department's software computer program.
  • Able to travel to corporate and community functions as appropriate.
  • Candidate must be able to perform various physical tasks with a high degree of proficiency, such as articulating, hearing, viewing, and walking throughout the hospital.
