Purpose:
Assists the department leadership with all aspects of program management, including, but not limited to, work history data analysis staffing allocations budget control equipment acquisition planning, installation and testing outside vendor management development of policies and procedures and provision of clinical engineering services. Ensures that all program components support the requirements, guidelines and standards as outlined by Accrediting Organizations, AAMI, FDA, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory or inspection agencies. Performs rounds on clinical (patient care) units to verify proper equipment use and operation. Develops and monitors compliance with equipment scheduled maintenance schedules.

Accountabilities:

  • Works with Patient Safety to determine needs for medical equipment education. Develops, and/or reviews, emergency and safety related plans for the use and operation of medical equipment. Reviews safety alert and equipment recall notices and takes appropriate actions to ensure that equipment is tested and/or removed from service, where appropriate. Performs incident investigation and equipment performance analysis as required in response to patient or employee related injuries related to medical equipment use, assisting with compliance requirements of the Safe Medical Devices Act.
  • Develops and maintains a standardized database listing of manufacturers, equipment descriptions, acquisition costs, model numbers and other indices needed to consolidate and standardize the entire medical equipment inventory. Develops scheduled maintenance schedules and guidelines for medical equipment maintained by the Healthcare Technology Management department.
  • Assist site leaders in the evaluation and supervision of technical staff as they perform duties and responsibilities related to technical support of medical equipment. Collects, reviews and makes recommendations on failure rate and scheduled maintenance outcome data on all covered equipment.
  • Coordinates and participates in special projects such as: new equipment purchase planning, vendor proposals, installation planning, equipment upgrades, equipment disposal, networking and integration of medical equipment systems.
  • Conducts New Team Member On~Boarding

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Engineering or related field.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in a hospital setting, preferably in a Biomedical or Clinical Engineering shop.
  • Certified Healthcare Technology Manager (CHTM) or Certified Clinical Engineer (CCE) preferred.
  • Ability to use basic computer software packages (word processing, spreadsheets, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS))
  • Ability to evaluate maintenance and cost data related to medical equipment.
  • Ability to repair, test and evaluate medical equipment service needs and communicate with medical equipment users on related issues.
  • Ability to evaluate staff productivity and quality of medical equipment service provided by both internal hospital staff and outside vendors.
  • Must be able to:  lift up to 25 lbs. from floor to waist and up to 30 lbs. overhead &  lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to: push with 50 lbs. of force & pull with 40 lbs. of force.
  • Must be able to maneuver in limited spaces, that is lift, bend, twist as needed.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment that is essential to performing the job.
