Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Master's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Risk Management, Nursing, Health Care Administration, Safety, or related field.
  • 7 years of experience in HR principles, design and execution of employee health and safety strategies and programs, statutory/regulatory compliance and high reliability principles.
  • 3 years of management experience in managing a team and budgets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, including the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and present professionally in front of audiences.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety regulations, state and federal regulations and hospital accreditation requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to make recommendations to drive enhancements and process improvements.
  • Excellent organizational, flexibility and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret clinical, financial and other data.
  • Demonstrated project management skills and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to think and act strategically.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety best practices and trends within healthcare.
  • Position requires travel.  May be exposed to road and weather hazards.
  • Must have functional sight, speech, touch and hearing.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Responsible for anticipation, recognition, evaluation and mitigation of workplace safety issues common in the health care industry. Responsible for designing comprehensive strategy that encompasses all aspects of Team Member Safety, (including workers compensation, workplace violence, and others) that serve to strengthen team member awareness and engagement, support a culture of zero-harm and transparency, reduce financial impact on the system and differentiate Advocate Aurora as a top workplace. Identifies key opportunities to drive culture of safety within our team members population, works with key stakeholders (HR, Operations, Risk Mgmt, Public Safety, Patient Safety) to secure buy~in, commitment, resources and accountability to drive identified improvements that are both measurable and in alignment with other organizational initiatives. Assesses workplace health and safety opportunities present within the system, effectively document, communicate their findings and provide recommendations that support a high reliability organization.


  1. Aligns organization around a philosophy of zero-harm for team members, supporting the belief that all injuries and incidents are unacceptable and preventable. Prevents future harm by initiating and overseeing proactive evaluation and redesign of processes and systems to improve team member safety incidents.
  2. Coordinates and facilitates implementation of risk reduction strategies and tactical plans to support a culture of zero-harm that include accountability measures and follow up. Supports and encourages harm reporting throughout the organization through a non punitive event reporting system and maintain compliance with legal requirements, accreditation and quality standards.
