TRAUMA COORDINATOR REGISTERED NURSE – Trauma Services

JOB and UNIT SUMMARY:

More than 42,000 people a year come to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (AIMMC) for emergency care. AIMMC is a Level I Trauma Center in Illinois Trauma/EMS Region XI which includes a trauma bay in addition to general emergency and behavioral health emergency designated beds.

 

The Trauma Coordinator promotes and facilitates optimal trauma care, in the context of a regionalized Trauma System, through clinical, administrative, professional, educational and quality improvements activities. The Trauma Coordinator will maintain oversight of Trauma

registry's and adhere to reporting schedules. The Trauma Coordinator collaborates with the Trauma Director to ensure Illinois Masonic Medical Center complies with the standards set forth by the State regulations and guidelines, with regard to Level I Trauma Services. The Trauma Coordinator will participate in state activities for trauma service improvement. The Trauma Coordinator collaborates with the Advocate System for excellence in Trauma care.

 

  • Collaborates, coordinates, participates, and evaluates with Nursing and Medical Director of Trauma activities of the Trauma Service at Illinois Masonic Medical Center
  • Promotes and facilitates excellence in trauma care within Advocate Health Care
  • Promotes injury prevention for the patient population of Illinois Masonic Medical Center primary and secondary service areas, based upon trauma population trends.
  • Collaborates with state and local agencies to promote excellence in trauma care from the Advocate Health Care to the patient populations in which we serve.
  • The trauma coordinator is responsible for the education and development of associates as it relates to the care of the trauma patients. The trauma coordinator works with the ED manager and EMS Manager to ensure each nurse is competent in the care of trauma patients.

 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Current Illinois RN License
  • Current CPR, ACLS and PALS Certification
  • Must possess at least 3 – 5 years’ nursing experience in critical care and/or emergency nursing
  • Certifications/education required for the nursing specialty (TNCC).  
  • Basic computer skills; word and excel
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Self directed individual who has demonstrated the ability to work unsupervised.
  •  Effective communication skills
  •  Ability to prioritize work
  •  Ability to develop good relationships among the hospitals in the Trauma Region
  •  Utilization of critical thinking skills
  •  Flexible hours
  •  Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple simultaneous requests.
  •  Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations.
  •  May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases.
  •  Ability to perform lifting/transfer activities related to patients (up to 100 lbs. may be    required)
  •  This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients served by the Trauma Service.
