Position Requirements:

  • Medical School Graduate or Certification as Surgical Assistant
  • Previous OR experience
  • CPR Certification
  • Certification as Surgical Assistant, if appropriate
  • Must me willing to work with exposures to body fluids, waste and chemicals, radiation, hazardous materials, anesthesia gases and life threatening diseases.
  • On-call availability (nights, weekends, holidays)
  • Rotating shifts
  • Flexibility to deal with changing environments.
  • Ability to respond quickly to emergencies/
  • Work in high stress situations.
  • Ability to respond to fire and other coded (e.g., evacuate patients)


If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Purpose:
To assist the surgeon in the performance of any surgical procedures, working
Under the surgeons' direction.

Accountabilities:
Establishment and achievement of self~development objectives and continued advancement of the practice team.
Participates in an environment within the practice team that supports management philosophy, ANSHN strategic plans and Advocate Healthcare strategies.
Participates in the implementation of strategies to increase productivity
Contributes to cost containment and business growth initiatives of the unit/department
Provision of quality care to patients as a first or second assistant in the practice team. Contributes to the design and implementation of improved processes to achieve quality and excellent patient care and service.
Demonstrates customer satisfaction skills within the department and hospital as defined by the Advocate's System's goals.
Contributes to the surgical services, department and hospital innovation efforts to maximize excellence and build respect for services.
