REGISTERED NURSE – Surgical Services Liaison

Illinois Masonic Medical Center; Chicago, IL (Lakeview area)

  • Mon-Friday scheduled shifts



This is a Nurse Liaison position whose purpose is to establish and provide effective communication across the continuum of Surgical Services as it relates to the status of patients and their planned procedures.

This position will enhance overall communication with patients, their families, the nursing and physician care team as well as the staff of the Surgical Waiting Rooms. This position will serve as a vital link to establish a relationship with patient families and patient care givers which will improve overall unit operations and patient/family engagement through communications regarding wait times and delays.

This position will also serve as an ambassador for all customer service behaviors within the division of Surgical Services.



  • Uses evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience.
  • Delivers and coordinates patient-centered care across the continuum to support the successful transition of patients to other healthcare delivery systems or their home communities.
  • Is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.

Professional Growth



  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Two (2) years of Operating Room or Peri-anesthesia nursing experience required.
  • Current Illinois RN License
  • Current CPR and ACLS Certification
  • Certifications/education required for the nursing specialty within 2 years of hire
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to respond quickly to patient/family needs and work at fast pace
  • Ability to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unit
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
