Position Requirements:

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited educational program with a baccalaureate degree in Respiratory Care Practice.
  • Licensed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • 4 years clinical experience in critical care, neonatal, pediatrics and trauma.
  • Good management skills, including ability to work well with other, team building skills, and excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in performance improvement techniques.
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate with staff at all levels, including physicians and administrators.
  • Knowledge of health care finance.
  • Ability to develop operational budget.
  • Must be accessible to department by phone on a 24-hr. basis.
  • Must be flexible when travel is required some local travel required.
  • Able to accommodate extended work hours.

Manages the provision of respiratory and pulmonary care services to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary treatment team. Utilizes appropriate resources to ensure that quality patient care is provided. Plans, coordinates and facilitates clinical operations of respiratory service. Ensures collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and implementation of best practices. To develop Associates to their fullest potential by focusing on education and mentoring plans to achieve optimal retention and succession planning outcomes.

This manager has responsibility for the defined areas of Respiratory and Pulmonary. He/she is responsible to foster the Advocate philosophy through the following six key result areas and to achieve outcomes defined for the areas.


  1. Physician Relations: Utilization of effective management skills to manage relationships and facilitate a cooperative common goal oriented culture.
  2. Clinical Outcomes: Ensures and accountable that department develops and implements policies, procedures and standards of practice to insure compliance with all standards required by Advocate HealthCare, accreditation agencies, legal, clinical practices and regulatory requirements. Oversees CQI and benchmarking activities.
  3. Funding Our Future: Preparation, implementation and monitoring of annual budgets to assure department financial outcomes reflect appropriate management of resources.
  4. Patient Satisfaction: Direction of operations that will provide continuous service excellence in respiratory care services.
  5. Associate Satisfaction: Management of the Human Resource function of Respiratory Care to ensure continued quality, development, and retention of personnel to meet the demand of the service.
  6. Growth: Development of long and short term plans with proactive and collaborative ideas from staff to meet the current and future needs of the department.
  7. Funding our Future: Preparation, implementation and monitoring of annual budgets to assure department financial outcomes reflect appropriate management of resources.
