Position Requirements:
High school education or equivalent.
Knowledge of medical terminology (demonstrates successful completion of course).
Typing 25+ wpm, preferred. Knowledge of computer keyboard. Good communication and telephone skills. Hours may vary as well as unit due to volumes
Ability to become proficient with computerized scheduling system.
Requires walking, standing, bending and sitting throughout the day

If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Purpose:
To provide clerical support to assist in the delivery of quality care to patients under the direct supervision of the nurse manager/supervisor, charge nurse or designee. The unit secretary works within the accepted service standards of the hospital and mission and philosophy.

The unit secretary works as a member of the patient care team and serves to facilitate unit operations through processing orders and charges, requisition of services and patient procedures, maintaining accurate and complete patient records, scheduling of procedures, management of supplies and serving as a unit representative for the department as a whole when in direct contact with patients and their families.
