Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in criminal justice or related field.
  • 5-7 years of prior Security/Safety or law enforcement management experience required.
  • State of Illinois 20 hour Basic Security Officer Course. Must have at time of hire.
  • Investigative skills.
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and graphic presentation software.
  • Working knowledge of security systems, including video surveillance, access control, security alarms, and infant/pediatric abduction alarms.
  • Certified in MOAB Verbal De-escalation within 30 days.
  • Certified in PPCT Defensive Tactics within 90 days.
  • Valid State of Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC).
  • IAHSS healthcare security officer certification at advanced or supervisory.
  • Possess valid driver's license.
  • Valid Illinois Firearm Owner Identification (FOID) Card if managing an armed site.
  • State of Illinois 40 Hour Firearms Certification Course if managing an armed site.
  • Eligible to apply for the State of Illinois Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) within 30 days of hire and eligible to obtain and maintain the PERC within 180 days of hire.
  • On call twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days a week.
  • Must be willing to carry a pager and/or radio.
  • Must be able to work any shift.
  • Requires local travel to attend meetings and conferences.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and investigate situations.
  • Self-directed, possess critical thinking and analytic skills.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb, walk, run and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to defend self and/or others.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.

To create a safe environment so that the Advocate ministry of healing thrives despite the inherent dangers in the healthcare industry. Provide a secure environment for staff, patients, volunteers, and visitors at Advocate facilities. Manage Public Safety Department operations and safeguard Advocate property, equipment, and supplies. Provide highly effective public safety, parking, and valet services that are focused on customer service.


  1. Manages Public Safety, parking, and valet associates and/or contractors for the hospital.
  2. Plans, directs, implements, and performs an ongoing evaluation of a comprehensive security programs to protect people, information, and property in Advocate Health Care locations, detect incidents when they occur, and react swiftly.
  3. Develops written procedures designed to enhance security. Organizes, trains, and directs staff in the Public Safety Department. Responsible for the development, recommendation and implementation of short and long~term goals and objectives for security.
  4. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with hospital executive team, department/unit directors and managers, physicians, associates and Advocate Healthcare system contacts.
  5. Develops, participates in, and reviews security, emergency management, and fire drill training for hospital staff including new associate orientation, ongoing education, mandated training, and emergency exercises. Provides consultation assistance to other assigned areas of responsibility.
  6. Serves as hospital liaison to federal, state, county, and local law enforcement and fire department officials to accommodate and assist in carrying out law enforcement and fire department activities on hospital property.
  7. Plans and directs budget preparation and implementation for assigned areas of responsibility.
