  • Test, troubleshoot and repair medical equipment to the board level standards
  • Repair and maintain patient care equipment devices, instruments, systems and related technologies to ensure safety and operational performance characteristics.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance according to hospital policies, procedures and industry recognized standards.
  • Maintain documentation of all service events, performance tests and corrective maintenance performed on a wide range of equipment types, including life support, monitoring, diagnostic, therapeutic and general clinical (patient care) devices.
  • Participate in and/or assists with development of departmental and hospital based continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maximize patient safety by supporting the proper use, application and operational performance of patient care equipment.
  • Work under the stressful environment created when clinical equipment users (physicians, nurses) mandate that their equipment be repaired in minimal time frames.
  • Work with extremely high voltage and with complex electronic circuitry
  • Be exposed to blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and air borne contaminants possible.
  • Assume on –call responsibility and to report to work as assigned at multiple Advocate facilities.
  • Use communication skills to interact with both patients and equipment users (clinical staff).


  • Associate's degree in electronics, computer or biomedical equipment technology, or equivalent training.
  • A preferred interest and desire to work with imaging equipment
  • Two or more years experience working on a wide diversity of medical equipment and systems.
  • Ability to effectively use a computer to document work efforts.
  • Eligibility for ICC (International Certification Commission) as a certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).
