CLINICAL SPECIALIST - OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY- Physical Therapy Fitness Center

  • Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington, IL
  • Part time - 0.8 (32 hours/week)
  • Day/PM Shift - 2 evenings expected until 7 p.m.
  • ***Certification in Hand Therapy or Certification Eligible Required***

 

Position Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited AOTA approved Occupational Therapy program
AOTA Certification Examination for Registered Occupational Therapist
Certification in Hand Therapy or Certification Eligible
Illinois Licensed or Licensed eligible

CPR certification
Specialized area/skill noted by advanced certification and/or 200 hours of continuing education in specific topic.
7 years of practice
Basic keyboarding skills

May be exposed to hazardous materials and life~threatening diseases
Direct contact with body fluids
Pushing, pulling, lifting, transferring patients. Ability to perform heavy lifting (lifting 50~100 pounds occcasionally and/or 25 to 50 pouinds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pouinds constantly.)
Ability to assist, escort, transfer, and respond to patient needs for extended periods of time
Services provided on weekends and holidays and during early evening hours
Off and on campus locations.
This requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 08/01/2014. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case~by~case basis.

Purpose:
To assess, plan, and implement medically prescribed occupational therapy treatment programs to both inpatients and outpatients of Good Shepherd Hospital and/or offsite centers in order to maximize the patient's functional abilities and minimize disability. Advanced specialization/certification in an area of specialty with 7~10 plus years of experience needed. Additional responsibilities include staff mentoring and development in area of specialty, advanced educational activities both in hospital and in the community, student fieldwork preceptor and program development, program development, goal planning, marketing, and assisting the Manager/Coordinator with defined administrative responsibilities as needed.

Accountabilities:
Responsible for all clinical accountabilities of an Occupational Therapist
Assists with marketing and promotion of Occupational Therapy to internal customers and the community as opportunities are available.
Provision of clinical education programs.
Communicate information/observations to appropriate personnel.
Participation in departmental administrative processes, ongoing process improvement, quality assurance and safety programs.

Addendum:
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated i.e. understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging prior experience with various age groups is preferred. Requires use of universal precautions as appropriate.
