* Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT and HCPCS coding.
* Proficient in Evaluation and Management
* Documentation Guidelines.
* Knowledge of CMS guidelines and 3rd party payor billing and payment rules.
* Ability to conduct group educational presentations.
* Ability to interact with all levels of the health care team.
* Ability to deal with problems involving several abstract and concrete variables in standardized situations.

* Effective and professional communications skills.
* Associate's degree in Health Information Management or RHIT eligible with successful completion of credentialing within one year.
* Five to seven years related experience in ICD-9-CM and CPT coding and physician /medical billing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Credentialed through AHIMA or AAPC: RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P or CPC.

Job Description:

The Coding Coordinator is responsible for providing ongoing training and education to providers and ancillary associates regarding CPT, ICD-9-CM, and HCPCS codes in accordance with approved coding guidelines.

Promotes consistency and accuracy of coding and documentation practices, and conducts retrospective and prospective audits that verify the correct assignment of diagnosis/procedure codes.

Ensures that clinical services ordered and performed are properly documented in the electronic medical record and paper record according to medical necessity and governmental regulations.

Accountabilities:
1. Develops and provides coding education and training to AMG physicians and staff.
2. Provides communication feedback loop from the Business Office to physicians and staff on coding and reimbursement issues.
3. Develops and maintains encounter forms utilized by Advocate Medical Group.
4. Provides education regarding appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record.
5. Assists with provisions of orientation program on coding and charge capture expectations with new hires and/or contracted physicians/providers.
6. Coordinates functions and activities of the Regional AMG Coding Department.
