Good interpersonal, clinical, beginning critical thinking and communication skills. Basic knowledge base and demonstrates competence in all Respiratory Care modalities for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients. Basic understanding of asthma and COPD disease management methods. Beginning patient and family teaching skills and assists with the develop of disease management care plans. Graduate of an AMA accredited Respiratory Care Program. Must obtain NBRC entry level credential within 6 months of hire. Zero to one year experience in adult and pediatric general care. Associate s Degree/Diploma BLS Licensed by the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in process within 6 months of hire.
Job Description:
: As a graduate beginning in the field of Respiratory Care, the RCP 1s responsibility during the first 6 months to a year is to learn to think more independently and work independently as a novice practitioner. The RCP 1 skills include the ability to begin to independently assess, provide, monitor and evaluate routine respiratory care procedures in non critical care areas. As the novice practitioner gains experience and knowledge in the adult general care area, their orientation and skill set will expand to include adult critical care areas. Once the RCP 1 can demonstrate competency in the adult critical care areas; the The RCP I provides care for adult and pediatric patients in non critical care areas at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital . Care delivery, communication and teaching are done using age specific procedures and educational approaches. This role should also develop to support the Respiratory Care Department s shared governance initiative and promote a team approach to patient care and ensure the appropriate and effective utilization of respiratory care practices and resources. As the RCP 1 matures in the practice of Respiratory Care, their skill set and assessment capabilities will progress to include independent assessment and initiation of protocols for all adult patients. Skills and responsibilities will also widen in scope to include neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. All respiratory therapy roles will support departmental initiatives in education, quality assurance and clinical activities in order to enhance and drive the overall department operations. RCPs will participate in professional wellness activities such as community spirometry screenings, smoking cessation and cardiopulmonary wellness endeavors. These responsibilities and activities are performed in accordance with scope of practice of the Respiratory Care Practitioner, (RCP) as defined in the Illinois Respiratory Care Practice Act. All procedures are carried out under the supervision of the Department Medical Director and the Respiratory Care Manager in accordance with written policies and procedures. These procedures include: oxygen therapy, aerosolized medication delivery, bronchial hygiene modalities, airway care, adult ventilator management, blood gas procurement and analysis, 12 lead ECGs procurement and the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. These procedures may be performed in all areas of the hospital where competencies have been demonstrated in caring for any patient population as detailed by hospital policies. Accountabilities: 1. Provision of all age specific respiratory care procedures as listed in the RCP 1 job description: - Assess indications for and delivers the highest quality of patient care and monitor for optimal outcomes by utilizing best practices from evidenced based medical research and AARC and AAP clinical practice guidelines for prescribing and assessing patient responses to delivered therapies. Re-evaluates patients on an ongoing basis to ensure that appropriate modalities and plan of care are adjusted or maintained as patient condition changes. 2. People Growth Promotes people growth throughout the hospital by assisting with the clinical education of students during clinical rotations. 3. Customer Service Provides customer service by assuring age specific education of patients and families. 4. Role Model Acts as a role model for department associates 5. Champions Change Initiatives Views innovation as a means of improving the utilization of respiratory care services. 6. Process Improvement Insures that quality is maintained in the delivery of respiratory care services.
