* 2 years security, police or paramedic experience (full-time capacity setting preferred). * One year of hospital safety and/or security expereince strongly preferred. * Knowledge of Illinois Criminal Code and liability under tort laws. * Completion all Public Safety Department training within 60 days of hire. * Valid State of Illinois Driver's License. * Ability to speak English fluently. * Experience IBM PC or compatible preferred. * Good Oral and Written Communications Skills. * Good interpersonal skills.
** Must be flexible with shifts and weekend work.
Job Description:
To Protect and Serve all hospital buildings, property, patients, staff, visitors, and business invites; to provide them with assistance and direction; control foot and vehicular traffic, using tact, courtesy and professionalism at all times. To monitor and control access to the parking lots and parking decks. During periods assigned in the Emergency Department, be able to cope with the additional stress and hazards of that assignment. Efficiently answer and dispatch all incoming and internal calls, Operate Lenel system and badging system. Respond to all emergency alarms, codes, monitors, etc. quickly and efficiently. To perform whatever duties deemed necessary for the department and hospital s benefit. Accountabilities: 1. Responsible for posts, patrols, surveillance and monitoring of the hospital complex, both internal and external areas, including entry points, stairwells, fan rooms, storerooms, parking lots and other areas encounter during rounds. Greet and assist patients, visitors and others. Being alert, pleasant, observant and professional; keeping in mind service first. Makes, issues and checks associates I.D.'s 2. Accountable for responding to emergencies; including but not limited to: chemical hazards, combative patients and officer assistance. 3. Responsible for responding to service calls; including unlocking and securing doors in a prompt manner. Offers to assist all patients and handicapped without being asked to assist. Responds to all motorist assists jump starts, providing escorts. Assist in clearing all entryways of ice and snow on an emergency basis. 4. Responsible for maintaining department issued, as well as required personally owned equipment in good repair. Follows dress code. Observer and obeys all traffic laws and regulations. Maintains department vehicles in good repair, cleanliness and reports damage, malfunctions and needed repairs immediately. 5. Responsible for keeping driveways and reserved areas free of non-authorized vehicles, providing direction, information and guidance when necessary; using traffic control and patrol techniques. Issues parking citations to ensure that associates, physicians and contractors are not parking in unauthorized areas. 6. Prepares shift records, reports, forms and log sheets with complete and accurate information by shift s end. Writes thorough reports on all incidents, accidents and investigations; utilizing correct grammar, spelling and other writing skills. Insures that reports are turned in to Lead without the need for corrections. 7. Assure customer satisfaction by assisting with patients being admitted/ discharged, assisting with their luggage and valuables. Maintains positive verbal and non-verbal communication skills at all times. Presents a positive self-image by maintaining good posture as well as a clean, neat and friendly appearance. Open doors for persons in need of assistance. Answers telephone in accordance with department policy. 8. Observe and enforce safety and security rules, regulations and hazards to include, but not limited to missing fire equipment, hazardous waste storage, electrical concerns, smoking and associate / contractor / physician identification violation. 9. Takes the initiative to learn and maintain knowledge of all policies, procedures and shift responsibilities. Keep abreast of all in-service training needs, completing them in a timely manner. 10. Follows attendance policy. Display flexibility from time to time by working overtime on other shifts to meet staffing needs. 11.
