Master of Divinity or equivalent master's degree in theology

1 year of supervisory experience following Associate certification
3 yrs. pastoral experience with two years experience as chaplain in health care setting

Ordination as clergy or membership in a religious order preferred; competent lay professional with appropriate ecclesiastical endorsements may be considered

Job Description:

To supervise and provide for the education of community clergy, religious, seminarians, and others through CPE and other educational programs; to provide pastoral care and counseling to patients, relatives, staff, and community persons through the Department of Mission and Spiritual Care; and to under gird each of these endeavors with a faith-based, wholistic approach to the care of persons. This position will be supported with Foundation Funds, thereby making it a time-limited position.
Accountabilities:
1. Develop and supervise programs of CPE for clergy, religious, seminarians, and laity to facilitate personal growth, the development of pastoral identity, and effective pastoral functioning in the hospital and other situations for ministry.
2. Coordinate CPE programs at Levels I & II of training to facilitate timely recruitment of qualified students, program compliance with ACPE and Advocate Cluster standards, ongoing program evaluation, in cooperation with Director of CPE and other CPE Supervisors.
3. Assist Director of CPE with educational needs throughout the system.
4. Provide staff and physicians with consultation, orientation, and in-service learning experiences that bring a spiritual perspective to bear on the wholistic care of persons.
5. Assist in education and liaison between the hospital and local clergy, congregations, and community groups to promote the development of more effective ministry, increase awareness of the services and policy of the hospital, enhance holistic care of persons, and facilitate cooperation between the hospital and churches and agencies.
6. Participate as needed in Department of Mission and Spiritual Care planning and administrative functions, policy formulation, cooperation with other departments, and/or participation in Advocate functions.
