-Good Communication skills. -General knowledge of diagnostic and treatment tools. -Masters degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited program. -Passes ASHA certification exam. -Coursework in Dysphagia. -Recognizes needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated. -CFY eligible. -Eligible for Illinois state licensure. -CPR certified.
Job Description:
To provide Speech Language Pathology services to patients/clients with communication and swallowing disorders. These services include assessment, treatment, discharge planning, related documentation and communication with physicians, families, and other healthcare providers. Accountabilities: 1. Performance of diagnostic evaluations in a thorough and timely manner in accordance with established departmental and professional standards and procedures resulting in clinically accurate diagnoses. 2. Formulation and provision of individualized treatment/discharge plans for patients based upon the results of diagnostic evaluations, prognosis, case histories as well as discussion with patient, family, physicians, case managers and other caregivers. 3. Communication of patient-related information to nursing and other healthcare providers to facilitate continuity of care and implementation of treatment recommendations. 4. Provision of information and guidance to patients and families regarding the nature and severity of communication or swallowing disorders, current treatment programs, prognosis for recovery, techniques designed to enhance carry over of desired behaviors and any safety or ethical issues related to patient s deficits. 5. Understanding the impact managed care has on provision of speech-language pathology services. 6. Participation in professional development 7. Participation in ongoing process improvement, quality assurance and safety programs. 8. Assumes other related responsibilities as assigned.
