Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with associate's degree in health information technology from accredited program or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) with bachelor's degree in health information administration from accredited program. At least five years acute care inpatient coding experience in a teaching medical center. Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)

Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to create consistency and efficiency in the accuracy of data collection for DRG reimbursement, data quality for inpatient services and reporting purposes.
Accountabilities:
1. Performs data quality reviews to validate the ICD-9-CM codes, DRG group appropriateness, and any missed secondary diagnosis and procedures, according to coding guidelines.
2. To ensure that accuracy of abstracted data for hospital statistics and UHDDS requirements that have been entered in the computerized on-line medical record abstracting system.
3. To interpret,educate and provide feedback to coders on regulations and various coding guidelines.
4. Interacts with Medical Staff, ancillary services and outside agencies concerning coding, abstracting and/or regulatory issues.
5. Performance of other duties.
