YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS TO BE CONSIDERED:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Two years CRT/data entry experience preferred.
Data entry skills
2-3 years access experience preferably in an acute care setting.
Basic understanding ICD-9 and CPT coding.
Strong medical terminology background
Ability to read, write, speak, and follow oral and written instruction.
Excellent spelling , communication and interpersonal skills
Current knowledge of regulatory standards.
Projects a mature, compassionate, positive, customer service attitude in a professional demeanor.
Works independently with flexibility
Ability to proficiently communicate and interact with the public, physicians, and associates.
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with a high level of empathy, tact, and poise.
Knowledge of general office equipment (computer, photocopier, fax, and multi-line telephone.)
Ability to transcribe medical information.
Ability to multitask and perform in a flexible manner.
Ability to type while interviewing.
Must demonstrate a high level of customer awareness and a strong commitment to fulfilling customer needs.
Ability to organize, prioritize and problem solve.
Certified in medical terminology within six (6) months of employment.
NOTE: MUST BE ABLE TO WORK FLEXIBLE HOURS AS SCHEDULE MAY ROTATE SHIFTS.
HOURS:
Primarily DAY and PM shifts.
Rotate start times:
DAYS: 5:30am, 6:30am, 7:30 and 8:30am.
PM SHIFT: 2PM, 3PM, 4PM and 5pm
Occassional Weekends
REQUIRED TRAINING:
Must be able to commit to 64 hours of training with educator on Days shift and an additional 24 hours of department observation time on PM shift.
Job Description:
The Access Specialist at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital performs registration processes in accordance with State, Federal, Hospital and departmental policies, procedures and regulations.
* Coordinates activities and requests to facilitate patient admissions, bed assignments, transfers and discharges.
* Demonstrates excellent customer relations with patients, their families, professionals and co-workers within the hospital.
* Ensures prompt, courteous service to patients, physicians, physician office staff and participating hospital departments by providing accurate and expedient scheduling.
* Accurately collects, analyzes and records demographic, insurance/financial and clinical data from multiple sources, and obtains other information and signatures necessary for scheduling and registration.
General Accountabilities:
1. Responsible for complete and accurate recording of visits for all Emergency Department activities.
2. Processes and communicates transactions associated with patient reservations, admissions, bed assignments, bed management, transfers and discharges.
3. Assists patients and their families with registration and the admission process to the hospital.
4. Maintenance of inventory and equipment in a cost effective manner.
5. Involvement with CQI, Safety and Education programs and departmental meetings.
6. Assistance with staff replacement.
