Good communication skills. High School diploma or
equivalent

Experience in acute care or long term care required Current BLS (Basic Life Support)

Job Description:

Provide continuous observation of a patient identified to be at risk for injury to self and others.
Accountabilities:
1. Sit with patients as assigned
2. Provide continuous observation to ensure that patient does not engage in acts harmful to self or others.
3. Assists clinical staff (nursing, respiratory therapy, physical therapy and radiology) in repositioning, ambulating and transporting patients. Care Companions can only reposition, ambulate or transport patients under the direct supervision of the clinical staff
4. Obtains permission from the registered nurse when relief of duty is required. A relief Care Companion or other clinical staff member must be provided prior to leaving the assigned patient.
5. Informs the registered nurse of any unsafe patient situations, such as: a. Patient attempts to exit from the bed/cart, table, etc. b. Patient pulling at equipment, devices, tubes, catheters, etc. c. Visitors who attempt to re-position patient, touching medical equipment/devices d. Alarms from patient equipment/devices
6. Maintains own personal/professional growth and development
